Heights & Ladders
Members of the Highland Fire District deploy the outriggers and take Rick for the ride of a lifetime, in the bucket of their new ladder truck. The firefighters talk about the challenges of driving the truck and demonstrate how it operates. Rick learns that this very large, high-tech apparatus allows firefighters to get to hard-to-reach places quickly and efficiently, to extinguish fires and perform rescues.
The Key
Rick discovers what it means for a new member to receive the key to the firehouse and become part of "the firehouse family." John Larocchia (retired FDNY firefighter), founder, president and stand-up comedian from Laughter Saves Lives, joins members of the South Blooming Grove Fire District to have a few laughs and talk about their volunteer firefighting experience.
No Hydrant? No Problem.
Ever wonder how the fire department puts out a fire if there's no fire hydrant around? Where does the water come from? Join Rick as he visits the Walker Valley FD to learn how firefighters utilize a tanker/tender and a drop tank to deliver water to a fire scene.

The TIC
Rick has fun learning the benefits of a "TIC", a piece of firefighting equipment known as the Thermal Imaging Camera... a camera that senses heat to pierce through darkness and smoke, and can help save lives. Watch it in action, as Rick takes a lesson from the members of the Wallkill Volunteer Fire Department.
Vehicle Extrication
Hands-on training for Rick, as he takes part in a Vehicle Extrication Drill, popping a window, cutting a windshield - skills often used when responding to a motor vehicle accident. Rick then gets to play the part of the victim. Ulster Hose Co. 5 to the rescue with the Jaws of Life! Watch how these incredible tools are put to use!
Emergency Medical Services
Bill and Rick visit the Wallkill Volunteer Ambulance Corps, where Rick learns about the Emergency Medical Services and gets a crash course on using an automated external defibrillator (AED) with CPR and realizes that saving lives is not as easy as it looks in the movies!
Flashover
Ever wonder how firefighters prepare for such
a dramatic, dangerous event such as a Flashover? NY State Fire instructors answer explain to Rick how
volunteer
firefighters train, using a special
simulator to experience a "live" controlled flashover.

In the Kitchen
From frying pans to "bubbles", Rick enjoys some firehouse life with the Wallkill Fire Department, where, just like at home, the kitchen is often the center of the family.
The Car Fire
Rick receives up close and personal experience extinguishing a car fire, under the watchful guidance of Bill and the members of the Wallkill Fire Department.
